My month volunteering in Uganda through IVHQ

My month volunteering in Uganda was one of the best times of my life to date. My placement was in Wakiso , a small village 50 Kms north of Kampala, and it was through IVHQ. This video gives a small idea of my experience.

International Volunteer HQ's volunteer abroad programs give volunteers the opportunity to work with thousands of children from around the world. Whether you want to volunteer abroad in Africa, Asia or Latin America, we have the right program for you.
Visit http://www.volunteerhq.org for more details.

Learning English prononciation

How important is learning English?

The English Language is considered to be one of the most important languages in the world. There are other languages such as French, Spanish, Chinese etc, but they are not important for the same reasons as the English Language. English is a universal language that links the world together which is the most important fact considering the changing times.

English is a language that can be used in many parts of the world since the schools nowadays are likely to have English as the first or second language or have educated people who would know the basics of English. People from other countries might have different accents when speaking English but the language is the same and should therefore be comprehensible.

Education has multiplied the role of English Language because universities worldwide, when completing a degree or course, often use English as the common mode of learning and communication.

English is also important when travelling to any part of the world, be it business or leisure. You have to communicate with so many individuals and colleagues starting from the airport, to the hotel and business meetings etc. There are instances where people have to use English to communicate with people in the same country since different regions speak different languages.

English is also the main language when it comes to the Internet. There are various languages and translations available but the main language has always been English. Since the importance of the Internet has also grown, English grows with it.

Knowing English opens job and employment opportunities in many countries and markets. Several institutions and agencies offer numerous employment opportunities to those who understand and communicate in English.

Apart from all that has been said, English is indisputably the primary language of global trade and commerce.

English is the fourth most widely spoken native language in the world, and in terms of sheer number of speakers, it is the most spoken official language in the world. It is the primary language used in international affairs. The English language has official status even in nations where it is not the primary spoken language.

What does it mean to "know" a language?

Quotes about LANGUAGES

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.

If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

(Nelson Mandela)

You live a new life for every new language you speak.

If you know only one language, you live only once.
(Czech proverb)

The limits of my language are the limits of my universe.

(Ludwig Wittgenstein)

Most people in the world are multilingual, and everybody could be; no one is rigorously excluded from another's language community except through lack of time and effort. Different languages protect and nourish the growth of different cultures, where different pathways of human knowledge can be discovered. They certainly make life richer for those who know more than one of them.

(Nicholas Ostler, Empires of the Word)

Embracing differences at ESFF

Time is now!

The time is now
To embrace our differences
To understand each other
To find common ground
To be an individual
To change the world
To set aside our differences
For people to love one another
To make a difference
To know we are all one family

The time is now
To embrace our differences
